Taraji Penda Henson (born September 11, 1970) is an American actress and singer. She is best known for her role as Yvette on Baby Boy (2001).
Henson was born in Washington, DC, the daughter of Bernice, a manager at Woodward & Lothrop, and Boris Henson, a janitor. She attended Oxon Hill High School in Oxon Hill, MD. Henson's first name is of Arabic origin, meaning "hope." Her middle name is Swahili, meaning "love." She first attended NC A&T where she started a major in Electrical Engineering.
